Germany Fines Sugar Cos. €280M Over Cartel

Law360, New York (February 18, 2014, 3:23 PM EST) -- Germany's antitrust watchdog slapped three sugar manufacturers with €280 million ($385 million) in fines Tuesday for fixing prices, divvying up sales territories and setting quotas for both industrial and retail sugar sales for more than a decade.

The German Federal Cartel Office fined Pfeifer & Langen GmbH & Co. KG, Sudzucker AG and Nordzucker AG, as well as seven unnamed people, for a long-running cartel after all three companies agreed to settle with the watchdog.
