Japan Mulls WTO Challenge To Indonesia's Mineral Export Ban

Law360, New York (February 20, 2014, 6:26 PM EST) -- Japan may file a complaint with the World Trade Organization over a new ban on raw mineral exports Indonesia enacted earlier this year, saying the law might violate Indonesia's WTO obligations, the business publication Nikkei Asian Review reported Thursday.

One of the largest users of nickel in the world, Japan said it might request bilateral consultations at the WTO with Indonesia later this month over the long-expected prohibition against exporting unprocessed nickel, copper and other mineral ore from Indonesia, which took effect in mid-January.
