J&J Blood Thinner Xarelto Caused Bleeding, Suit Says

Law360, Philadelphia (February 20, 2014, 4:00 PM EST) -- A Kentucky woman sued Johnson & Johnson and Bayer AG in Pennsylvania court on Tuesday, alleging that she suffered severe internal bleeding stemming from use of the blood-thinning drug Xarelto.

In the lawsuit, which appears to be the first tort suit filed in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas over the medication, Virginia Stuntebeck said the drug should not be sold because of the high risks surrounding its use.

One of Stuntebeck’s claims, that Bayer and Johnson & Johnson were negligent in introducing the drug, comes directly on the heels of a Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision in January that pharmaceutical companies...
