Colo. 1st In Nation To Approve Methane Emissions Rules

Law360, New York (February 24, 2014, 3:01 PM EST) -- Colorado became the first state to directly regulate methane emissions from oil and gas operations when members of the state's Air Quality Control Commission voted 8-1 on Sunday to approve new hydrocarbon emission control requirements.

The state panel concluded a five-day public hearing with the near unanimous vote in favor of the regulations clamping down on volatile organic compounds. The rules are the first in the United States designed to detect and reduce methane emissions, according to the panel.
