Equifax Blasts Miss. Tax Appeal Process In Certiorari Bid

Law360, New York (February 24, 2014, 6:15 PM EST) -- Consumer credit reporting giant Equifax Inc. asked the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday to review the procedure used by Mississippi courts when deciding tax deficiencies, saying tax trials in the state are elaborate theater with predestined results, with the taxpayer usually on the losing side.

In its request for certiorari, Equifax said Mississippi law violates the Due Process Clause of the U.S. Constitution because it does not allow taxpayers to call witnesses or cross-examine Department of Revenue auditors, and the standard of review on appeal is...
