EU Is Cooking Up New Novel Food Rules

Law360, New York (March 5, 2014, 5:08 PM EST) -- The European Commission recently adopted a proposal for a new EU regulation on novel foods which is intended to replace Regulation (EC) 258/97. The proposal is the EC's second attempt at reforming the novel foods regime in the European Union. Its first proposal, published in January 2008, had failed due to a disagreement among the EC, the European Parliament and the European Council regarding the specific provisions on food from cloned animals.
