EU Raises Objections To Telefonica's $11.7B E-Plus Deal

Law360, New York (February 27, 2014, 4:32 PM EST) -- The European Union's antitrust watchdog issued a formal complaint Wednesday over the proposed €8.55 billion (US$11.7 billion) merger of Telefonica SA's German unit and the Germany-based mobile carrier E-Plus, laying out regulators' concerns that the deal could harm competition and violate EU rules.

The European Commission sent Telefonica a formal statement of objections about the transaction, which would combine Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG and the German wireless business of Dutch telecom giant Royal KPN NV, a commission spokesman told reporters on Thursday.
