Canada Blocks Taseko's $1.5B Gold And Copper Mine

Law360, New York (February 27, 2014, 4:24 PM EST) -- Canada said Wednesday it will not issue the federal authorizations necessary for Taseko Mines Ltd.’s $1.5 billion proposed copper and gold mine in British Columbia to go forward, finding it is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects that cannot be mitigated. 

Minister of the Environment Leona Aglukkaq said the federal government considered the report of an independent review panel that researched the New Prosperity mine project, and agreed with its conclusions about the environmental impacts of the project.
