Rand Paul Opposes Surgeon General Nominee Over Gun Issue

Law360, Washington (February 27, 2014, 3:48 PM EST) -- Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said on Wednesday that he would oppose President Barack Obama’s pick for U.S. Surgeon General over fears the nominee would use the post to curtail gun rights.

Paul wrote in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., that nominee Vivek Murthy was not qualified to serve as Surgeon General because of statements that Paul says threaten the rights of gun owners.
