Wash. High Court Clears Paper Mill Biomass Project

Law360, Chicago (February 27, 2014, 9:31 PM EST) -- The Washington Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a state environmental regulator’s approval of a cogeneration project at a paper mill run by Port Townsend Paper Corp., agreeing the project wouldn’t harm the state’s forests or produce excess carbon emissions.

Reviewing the case en banc, the state’s high court turned back a challenge to the project from PT Air Watchers and several other environmental groups, finding the state’s Department of Ecology had performed a “reasoned assessment” of the project’s environmental impact.
