Newegg Backs Limelight's Quest To Toss Inducement Rule

Law360, New York (March 3, 2014, 3:55 PM EST) -- Newegg Inc., a strident opponent of so-called patent trolls, on Friday urged the U.S. Supreme Court to grant Limelight Networks Inc.’s request to vacate a Federal Circuit decision expanding liability for induced patent infringement, noting that the rule creates uncertainty for e-commerce participants.

In an amicus brief, Newegg and apparel giant L.L. Bean Inc. said the Federal Circuit’s decision departs with established precedent by abandoning the requirement that there must be direct infringement committed by one party in order hold another party liable for induced infringement....
