EU Takes A Closer Look At $8B Nokia-Navteq Deal

Law360, New York (March 28, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Commission has decided to dig deeper into Nokia Corp.'s $8.1 billion bid for Navteq Corp. to examine significant vertical competition concerns that have come up, confirming reports that surfaced last week of an in-depth inquiry.

The commission said Friday, the day its preliminary review expired, that the proposed deal had given rise to “serious doubts” about whether a union between the mobile telephone company and the digital mapmaker would impede competition in the market for navigable digital maps.
