Critics Blast USPTO Patent Transparency Plan At Hearing

Law360, New York (March 13, 2014, 6:09 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's plan to require more transparency about patent ownership was met with heated opposition Thursday at a hearing where representatives of large companies and independent inventors said the proposal would impose unwarranted burdens on patent owners.

As part of an effort to crack down on so-called patent trolls, the USPTO proposed rules in January that would require information about the owner of every patent to be filed with the office during prosecution and throughout the life of a patent.
