Commercial Bankruptcies Take Big Tumble From Last Year

Law360, New York (March 5, 2014, 1:37 PM EST) -- The trend of fewer bankruptcy filings continues as new figures released Wednesday show that commercial bankruptcy filings were down 24 percent in February 2014 from the same time last year, while overall bankruptcy filings dropped 12 percent over that time period.

There were 2,813 commercial filings in February, down from 3,722 in February 2013, according to a report from Epiq Systems Inc. and distributed by the American Bankruptcy Institute. Of those business filings, just 452 were Chapter 11 cases, down from 619 the year before....
