OIG Finds Data Protection Weakness At Medicaid Agencies

Law360, New York (March 6, 2014, 5:27 PM EST) -- A U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General investigation into Medicaid data security in 10 states turned up several "significant and pervasive" vulnerabilities that could leave patients' personal information at risk, the watchdog said Wednesday.

In a report, the OIG said it conducted the investigation after identifying high-risk security vulnerabilities in previous reviews of information system general controls related to the Medicaid Management Information Systems at the 10 unnamed state agencies between 2010 and 2012.
