Microsoft Prevails In Image Technology Patent Suit

Law360, New York (January 31, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Microsoft has dodged what could have been a multimillion dollar bullet after an Arizona judge ruled that the computer giant did not infringe a small technology company’s patents for a process that improves computer screen images.

Judge Manuel Real cleared Microsoft of infringing six patents held by Research Corporation Technologies, saying that three of the patents were unenforceable because RCT withheld material information from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office during the application process.

The judge declared the other three patents invalid.
