DC Biz Owner Pleads Guilty To Dark Money, Tax Conspiracy

Law360, New York (March 11, 2014, 1:50 PM EDT) -- A prominent Washington, D.C., business owner pled guilty to violating campaign finance and tax laws on Monday, admitting to secretly funneling more than $3 million to yet-unnamed political candidates, including a 2008 presidential candidate and a candidate for mayor of the nation's capital.

Jeffrey E. Thompson, through his companies, D.C. Healthcare Systems Inc. and Thompson Cobb Bazilio and Associates, conducted so-called shadow campaigns by using the corporations to pump illegal money into "get out the vote" efforts for specific candidates, and then filed false tax returns...
