Wis. Senate OKs Bill To Open Up Asbestos Trust Claims

Law360, New York (March 12, 2014, 6:38 PM EDT) -- The Wisconsin Senate passed legislation on Wednesday that would force plaintiffs in asbestos lawsuits to notify defendants of their asbestos trust claims, in response to companies' assertions that the current lack of transparency allows plaintiffs to defraud them.

The bill passed by a vote of 17 to 16, with all but one of the chamber's Republicans voting in favor. All of the Democrats voted against the legislation. It now heads to the state Assembly, which approved a similar measure in May.
