WIPO Cuts International Patent Fees

Law360, New York (April 1, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The World Intellectual Property Organization has approved a budget increase for 2008 and agreed to reduce international patent application fees, slashing them further for developing countries.

At a one-day extraordinary session in Geneva on Monday, WIPO member states agreed to cut the fee the agency charges for international patent filings 5%, from 1,400 Swiss francs to 1,330 Swiss francs.

The agency decided to reduce the fees for developing countries, who will now receive 90% discounts off the international patent application fee, up from 75%.
