'Limited Progress' Made In Japan Ag Tariff Talks, US Says

Law360, New York (March 13, 2014, 3:13 PM EDT) -- The U.S. and Japan still have gaps in their positions on lowering agricultural tariffs as part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the U.S. Trade Representative's offices said Wednesday after two days of bilateral negotiations resulted in “limited progress.”

Acting Deputy USTR Wendy Cutler and Hiroshi Oe, a former Japanese ambassador to Pakistan who is serving as a deputy chief negotiator for Japan in the TPP talks, met in Washington this week to discuss market access issues, focusing in specifically on the treatment of agricultural products.
