ACLU Backs Challenge To Fla. Same-Sex Marriage Ban

Law360, Miami (March 13, 2014, 3:55 PM EDT) -- The American Civil Liberties Union on Wednesday sued the state of Florida on behalf of eight same-sex couples challenging the state's refusal to recognize same-sex marriages performed out of state.

The suit, filed in the Northern District of Florida, is the second federal court challenge to the state's laws that prohibit the recognition of legally married same-sex couples since the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark ruling in U.S. v. Windsor.
