Cephalon Slaps Dr. Reddy's With Suit Over Leukemia Drug

Law360, New York (March 17, 2014, 9:50 PM EDT) -- Cephalon Inc. hit Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. with a lawsuit in Delaware federal court Friday, claiming the generic-drug maker’s plan to make its own version of leukemia drug Treanda infringes a Cephalon patent.

The suit claims that Dr. Reddy’s, a pharmaceutical company based in Andhra Pradesh, India, infringed the Treanda patent when it filed an abbreviated new drug application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market bendamustine, which Cephalon says contains the same active pharmaceutical ingredient — bendamustine hydrochloride — that's present in Treanda.
