SEC Plans To Address Equity-Indexed Annuities

Law360, New York (April 2, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has reportedly put equity-index annuities on its agenda for the year, planning to propose a way to address problems with the complex financial instruments.

Chairman Christopher Cox told a meeting of the North American Securities Administrators Association on Tuesday that the agency would take a closer look at the annuities to determine whether they should be regulated as a securities or as insurance, according to Dow Jones.
