Fed. Circ. Clears Inventor Of Contempt In Energy IP Suit

Law360, New York (March 20, 2014, 8:21 PM EDT) -- The Federal Circuit on Thursday reversed a ruling holding an inventor in contempt of an order enforcing a settlement agreement in a patent dispute with his former employer Energy Recovery Inc., finding his sale of a newly patented product did not run afoul of the deal.

The settlement Leif Hauge had reached with Energy Recovery in 2001 required him to transfer all of his intellectual property rights covering pressure exchangers — a type of energy recovery device used in reverse osmosis — that predated the settlement....
