Judge Allows U.S. Trustee To Investigate Countrywide

Law360, New York (April 3, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has allowed the U.S. Trustee for the Western District of Pennsylvania to launch a probe into Countrywide Financial Corp.'s role in the bankruptcies of some of its customers.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Thomas Agresti handed down the 54-page order Wednesday, over objections by Countrywide that the federal bankruptcy monitor was overstepping the bounds of her powers and duties and lacked standing to compel production of the requested documents.
