EPA Teams Up With NC In Coal Ash River Spill Probe

Law360, New York (March 24, 2014, 2:36 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will join North Carolina’s investigation of a massive February coal ash spill that dumped up to 82,000 tons of coal ash across 70 miles of the Dan River, the state said Friday.

The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources said the state intends to pursue a joint approach with the federal government to an “enforceable resolution” of violations associated with the Dan River spill and resolve Clean Water Act violations at other Duke Energy Corp. facilities.
