Md. High Court Slaps WL Gore With $29M Tax Bill

Law360, New York (March 24, 2014, 3:39 PM EDT) -- The Court of Appeals of Maryland on Monday upheld a $29 million tax assessment against industrial and medical technology giant W.L. Gore & Associates Inc. and several of its subsidiaries, saying the subsidiaries had nexus with the state.

In a unanimous opinion, Judge Sally D. Adkins said Delaware-based Gore Enterprise Holdings Inc. and Future Value Inc. were subsidiaries of Maryland-based W.L. Gore, and they had no real economic substance apart from their parent company, therefore subjecting them to Maryland taxation.
