Food Giants Urge FDA To Ease Up On Proposed Trans Fat Ban

Law360, New York (March 25, 2014, 7:11 PM EDT) -- Several food industry giants have asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to consider allowing a capped amount of trans fat in some food products, instead of an all-out ban on trans fat, in comment letters made public Friday.

ConAgra Foods Inc., Nestle USA and The Schwan Food Co. submitted comment letters earlier this month expressing concern over the FDA’s tentative proposal to yank the “generally recognized as safe” status for partially hydrogenated oils, which are the major source of non-animal-derived trans-fatty acids in food products....
