Vermonters Call For Antitrust Probe Of Big Oil

Law360, New York (April 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Vermont Senate has urged the state attorney general to launch a criminal investigation of major oil companies on the suspicion that anti-competitive practices are behind the industry's record profits and consumers' soaring costs.

The Senate passed joint House-Senate resolution J.R.S 60 on Thursday, asking Attorney General William Sorrell to investigate Big Oil and bring legal actions to reimburse the state and its citizens "for the costs of illegal price-fixing, price-gouging, and conspiracy to restrain trade in retail gasoline and diesel fuel."
