China, EU Vow To Consider Free Trade Agreement

Law360, New York (March 31, 2014, 6:27 PM EDT) -- China and the European Union on Monday committed to pursuing a potential free trade agreement in the future if negotiations already underway for a bilateral investment pact prove successful.

Following a summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and two EU heads of state — European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso — the two sides in a joint statement welcomed progress made in ongoing negotiations for a potential investment agreement, which would shoot to strengthen investment protections and give each side more access to the other’s markets.
