Japanese Cos. Sanctioned Over 'Recycled' Paper

Law360, New York (April 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Japan's Fair Trade Commission has reportedly sanctioned eight paper companies in that country for intentionally misleading consumers about what percentage of their products contained recycled paper.

The companies admitted to fabricating the data since the 1980s, the JFTC said in ordering them to stop the practice. The order amounts to an administrative penalty, the news agency Kyodo News reported.

The companies involved were Oji Paper Co., Nippon Paper Group Inc., Mitsubishi Paper Mills Ltd., Hokuetsu Paper Mills Ltd., Chuetsu Pulp & Paper Co., Kishu Paper Co.,...
