Chevron Faces Revived Charges Over Brazil Spill

Law360, New York (April 4, 2014, 5:58 PM EDT) -- Chevron Corp. confirmed Friday that a Brazilian appeals court has reinstated criminal charges against the energy giant and 11 employees, stemming from a 2011 offshore oil spill that also led to a $42 million civil settlement by the company last year.

Charges had been dropped in February 2013 against 12 Chevron employees and five Transocean Ltd. employees, who were accused of obstructing an investigation of authorities, failing to comply with environmental obligations, submitting a false emergency plan and illicit misrepresentation of documents submitted to authorities....
