House Committee OKs Bill To Shield Student Loans

Law360, New York (April 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A bill aimed at ensuring that students' access to their federal college loans remains open and secure even when lenders struggle to stay afloat cleared a U.S. House of Representatives committee on Wednesday.

The House Education and Labor Committee approved the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act in the hope of erecting barriers to protect students from the effects of future crises in the credit markets, after a downturn last year sent a slew of lenders into bankruptcy.
