Acacia Boosts Portfolio With New File Locking Patent

Law360, New York (February 14, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Adding to its ever-expanding and increasingly lucrative portfolio, patent-holding firm Acacia Research Corporation has acquired the rights to a new patent involving the file locking system used in shared storage networks.

Acacia’s wholly owned subsidiary, Acacia Patent Acquisition Corporation, announced the purchase on Monday, putting software makers on high alert.

The move is guaranteed to expand the number of potential licensees and defendants who will face Acacia in settlement talks or go to court over the technology.
