DOE Aims To Double Hydropower By 2030

Law360, Washington (April 29, 2014, 3:57 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Energy unveiled a new hydropower strategy on Tuesday to double the industry's overall production by 2030 via updating the technology at existing dams across the country and harnessing undeveloped streams, as top officials claimed additional hydropower will provide stability to the electric grid.

Calling hydropower a “hidden renewable,” Energy Secretary Ernest J. Moniz said on Tuesday that the agency is looking for innovations across hydro space to take advantage of recent market resurgence.
