EC Calls For Comment On Insurance Exemption

Law360, New York (April 17, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Leaning toward dumping an antitrust exemption enjoyed by the business insurance industry, the European Commission has decided to gather public comments on the regulation that allows insurance companies to engage in certain practices that would otherwise be deemed anti-competitive.

The insurance block exemption regulation allows companies to share statistical data that helps to calculate risk, establish general guidelines for policy conditions and create insurance pools.

The public consultation, the European Commission said, will help it decide whether to renew the regulation after it expires in March...
