Gauntlet Thrown In Voice Recognition Patent Dispute

Law360, New York (February 17, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- A patent battle that has been brewing over voice recognition technology has finally boiled over, with a Delaware communications company firing the opening salvo last week.

Nuance Communications Inc. slapped rival Tellme Networks Inc. with a patent infringement lawsuit on Friday, accusing the company of violating two of Nuance’s patents related to directory assistance and call center technologies.

The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Delaware, charges California-based Tellme with allegedly trying to co-opt features used in Nuance’s method and apparatus for recording voice input...
