Ex-Owner Of Bankrupt Mexicana Airlines Seeks Asylum In US

Law360, New York (May 15, 2014, 8:06 PM EDT) -- The ex-owner of defunct airline Mexicana de Aviación SA de CV has sought political asylum in the United States in the wake of reported fraud charges brought against him by Mexican authorities in connection with the carrier’s collapse, officials said Wednesday. 

The Mexican Attorney General’s Office, or Procuraduria General de la Republica, said it was informed by the U.S. government that Gaston Azcarraga made the plea for American protection after he was picked up for having an expired tourist visa.
