GAO Slams FDA Inspection Process

Law360 (April 22, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Despite a recent attempt to step up its vigilance, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is still not doing all it could be to prevent contaminated drugs from entering the U.S., according to a new study done by the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

The study's results, which were made public on Tuesday, reveal that although the FDA has taken steps to improve its foreign drug inspection process, the agency still has not addressed the problems with the system exposed in earlier GAO testimony.
