White House Pledges To Fight Ledbetter Bill

Law360, New York (April 23, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- With a U.S. Senate vote looming, the Bush administration has threatened once again to veto a bill that would reverse a controversial U.S. Supreme Court decision that restricted employees' right to sue for pay discrimination.

On Tuesday, the White House voiced its strong opposition to the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which aims to overturn the Supreme Court's ruling last year in Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.

“H.R. 2831 constitutes a major change in, and expanded application of, employment discrimination law,” the Bush administration said....
