FDA, Others Seize Drugs In Global Online Pharmacy Raids

Law360, Washington (May 22, 2014, 8:06 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and several international regulators seized nearly 20,000 packages containing unapproved or suspected counterfeit drugs as part of a global operation to curb illegal online pharmacy sales, the agency said on Thursday.

Between May 13 and May 20, customs and regulatory authorities across the globe detained or seized 19,618 packages that purportedly contained prescription drugs from Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Canada. However, the FDA said the international mail actually contained illegal shipments of insulin, estrogen and several other drug products from India, China and other countries.
