OFT Launches Tobacco Price-Fixing Probe

Law360 (April 25, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.K. Office of Fair Trading is investigating the possible manipulation of cigarette prices by two tobacco companies and several British retailers.

The OFT's statement of objections, announced Friday, names tobacco firms Imperial Tobacco and Gallaher, and 11 retailers — Asda, the Co-operative Group, First Quench, Morrisons, Safeway, Sainsbury, Shell, Somerfield, T&S Stores, Tesco and TM Retail.
