North Carolina Governor Signs Bill To Allow Fracking
Law360, New York (June 4, 2014, 2:59 PM EDT) -- North Carolina's governor on Wednesday signed into law a bill that allows hydraulic fracturing in the state and criminalizes the disclosure of fracking chemicals, lifting a 2012 moratorium that blocked fracking permits.
During an event at North Carolina State University, Gov. Pat McCrory signed the Energy Modernization Act of 2014, which moved through both the Republican-led state House and Senate with little debate last week. Fracking could begin in the state as soon as early next year.
McCrory said the bill clears the way for energy exploration, high-tech jobs and new investment in North Carolina's energy sector.
