Cox Blasts SEC Subpoenas Issued To Journalists

Law360, New York (February 27, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a move dubbed “highly unusual” by Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox, the SEC has subpoenaed two journalists in connection with an ongoing investigation into stock-research company Gradient Analytics.

Earlier this month the agency’s San Francisco office issued subpoenas to Herb Greenberg and Carol Remond, two Dow Jones columnists, asking for telephone records, e-mails and other documents related to the company.

The subpoenas were issued without clearance from top SEC officials, drawing criticism from Cox, who issued a statement chastising the agency’s actions....
