EPIC Pushes FTC For Stronger Snapchat Privacy Pact

Law360, New York (June 11, 2014, 6:01 PM EDT) -- The Electronic Privacy Information Center said on Tuesday that it supports mobile messaging service Snapchat's settlement with the Federal Trade Commission over claims that it made false promises about its privacy features, but said the deal could go further.

In May, Snapchat agreed to settle claims that the disappearing nature of messages on its app, the amount of personal data it collected and the strength of its data security didn't operate as advertised. EPIC had complained about the company's practices a year earlier.
