Judge OKs Diocese's Settlement, Bankruptcy Plan

Law360 (May 1, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A judge has approved a $37 million settlement between the Roman Catholic Diocese of Davenport, Iowa, and more than 150 victims who were allegedly sexually abused by priests, allowing the diocese to exit Chapter 11.

The settlement, reached Nov. 29 after four days of negotiations, addresses the claims of 156 individuals, the diocese said. A portion of the amount will be set aside for any additional victims who come forward. The diocese should be able to start mailing checks to victims soon.
