Quantum Surrenders To Sun Microsystems For $25M

Law360, New York (March 1, 2006, 12:00 AM EST) -- Conceding defeat, backup provider Quantum Corp. has agreed to pay $25 million to software giant Sun Microsystems Inc. to settle a long-simmering patent infringement suit over data storage system technology, just days before the trial was set to begin.

California-based Quantum announced the deal on Tuesday, marking the end of a nearly three-year battle with Sun’s wholly owned subsidiary StorageTek.

StorageTek sued Quantum in April 2003, charging the company with infringing on two patents related to its optical servo system, a data storage system.
