EU Committee Backs Energy Unbundling Proposal

Law360, New York (May 6, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy approved an amended version of a plan to separate the production and transmission of energy on Tuesday.

The version of the unbundling proposals that the committee went with, which involve full ownership, is the farthest reaching of those offered, the press office said.

It would forbid companies or countries from simultaneously exercising control over electricity generation or supply and "directly or indirectly exercising control over a transmission system operator."
