Bush OKs Bill To Secure Student Loans

Law360, New York (May 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- President Bush signed a bill into law on Wednesday aimed at ensuring that students' access to their federal college loans remains open and secure even when lenders struggle to stay afloat.

Supporters of the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act of 2008 hope the measure will put up barriers to protect students from the effects of future crises in the credit markets. A downturn in the credit market last year sent a slew of lenders into bankruptcy.
