EU Scuttles Probe Into Sea Shipping Price-Fixing

Law360, New York (May 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Union's competition watchdog said Thursday it has shut down its investigation into possible collusive behavior in the maritime transport of bulk liquids on deep-sea routes.

The European Commission said it had decided to close the case after concluding that there was a possibility that the services under investigation were excluded from competition rules.

The probe was first initiated in February 2003, when the agency launched a number of raids on a slew of shipping companies, seeking evidence that they had formed an anti-competitive cartel...
